The Peacemakers

The Peacemakers are an Alaska-based musical ensemble that hopes to bring peace to the world. At this time, we are reaching out to remind people that we cannot forget about Ukraine.

More about The Peacemakers

Masao composed “Ukraine Will Fly” in the hope to help Ukrainians live in peace and enjoy their freedom. Our lead singer, Koko, liked the lyrics and shared her desire to do something for peace, in her case to sing the song for Ukraine to fly on the wings of freedom. Then our pianist, Cameron; our cellist, Linda; and our drummer, Derek, who is also our audio engineer, joined the group. Rowan created the music video.

We hope this song will inspire other artists who oppose Putin’s war. After the Nazis bombed Spain in 1937, Picasso painted “Weeping Woman.” This portrait of a devastated mother holding her dead child still speaks to us on an emotional level today. Likewise, John Lennon’s “Give Peace A Chance” united anti-war protestors during the 1970s.

The arts touch our emotions. As more artists join us in a movement for peace, we can appeal together to the hearts of people who feel hopeless. We can unite people beyond borders, including peace-loving Russians, Chinese, and Iranians, as they write stories and poems, sing, paint, and sculpt for the peace of future generations.
